Buč Kesidi – Euforija

Euforija is a polished, synth-driven pop-rock album that captures the energy and immediacy of contemporary youth culture, offering catchy hooks and spirited production, but remains lyrically and thematically lightweight.

Buč Kesidi emerged from Pančevo in the mid-2010s as part of a wave of regional indie acts blending guitar rock with modern electronic production. Originally formed as a trio, the band gradually shifted toward a synth-driven sound, trading raw indie rock textures for layered pop production and dancefloor sensibilities. By the time they released their second album, Euforija, in 2019, they had already built momentum through festival appearances and a string of popular singles, positioning themselves as one of the more visible young acts in the Serbian indie scene.

Lyrically, Euforija revolves around youth culture — clubs, attraction, alcohol, and the emotional aftertaste of nightlife. It’s a deliberately youthful record, aimed squarely at listeners immersed in contemporary social scenes. That focus gives the album immediacy, but it also limits its thematic depth.

The opener Subota establishes the album’s palette with glossy synth-pop textures and dance rhythms. Its quick vocal delivery and club-centric narrative are catchy but lyrically straightforward, setting a tone that prioritises accessibility over nuance. Laz follows with similarly polished production, layering synths over pop-rock guitar accents. While melodically pleasant, it leans heavily on familiar genre tropes and struggles to carve out a distinct identity.

One of the album’s stronger moments arrives with Đuskanje ne pomaže. The track channels flirtatious club energy through punchy guitar work and an infectious chorus. Its pop-punk edge injects momentum into the first half of the record, even if its youthful perspective leans toward adolescent exuberance. The title track, Euforija, and the hit single, Nema ljubavi u klubu, attempt to expand the sonic palette with funk-inflected grooves. Still, their dense production can feel overworked at times, smoothing out the band’s rougher edges but not adding much significant complexity.

As the album progresses, the energy tapers off. Ballads like Idemo do hodnika introduce a more atmospheric mood, yet the arrangements feel comparatively sparse and less engaging than the upbeat material that precedes them. The second half drifts, trading the immediacy of the opening tracks for introspection that isn’t fully realised.

Taken as a whole, Euforija is a competent and occasionally catchy pop-rock record that captures a snapshot of contemporary youth culture. Its production is clean and professional, and its hooks are designed for wide appeal. However, the album rarely ventures beyond established synth-pop conventions, and its lyrical focus can remain surface-level. For listeners seeking innovation or lasting emotional resonance, it may feel slight.

Still, Euforija succeeds as a distinctly youthful and spirited project. It’s an album built for the present moment — passable modern pop rock that resonates most strongly with the audience it directly reflects.
