About EX-YU Music

Hi, I’m Cam — a music lover from London with a soft spot for the Balkan region and its criminally underrated music scene.

I started EX-YU Music in 2024 as a personal deep dive into the rich, genre-spanning music scene of the former Yugoslavia — a region whose artistic legacy remains fairly unknown outside the Balkans.

Over time, this blog has evolved into a curated archive of album reviews, and listening guides, covering everything from 1970s rock to contemporary post-breakup experimental acts. I’ve since expanded the project to include newer artists from the region because they, too, are innovating and expanding what Ex-YU music means today.

You’ll find familiar names here — Bijelo Dugme, Azra, EKV — but also deep cuts and obscure gems that deserve more love. My goal is to tell the stories behind the music, and help others fall in love with these sounds, just like I did a few years ago.

⚠️ A quick note: While I speak some Croatian, I’m not a native speaker of any Balkan languages. I do my best to research respectfully, and I’m always learning. If you spot anything that needs correcting, or want to share music or stories — I’d love to hear from you.

You can contact me via email at [email protected], or via Instagram.

Thanks for reading.

— Cam

I created this site in 2024 to document my journey into the wild, emotional, genre-defying music of the former Yugoslavia. Since then, it’s grown into an archive of forgotten gems, essential albums, and contemporary discoveries.
